I have a descriptive way of teaching, but I am also a firm believer in using abstract methods in order to obtain and understanding. Visual aids can also be very helpful, such as using pictures, every-day items, or a chemistry model set.

As a graduate of a 'Public Ivy' institution, I have had a very well-rounded and intensive education.

I have had many student. My first priority when working one-on-one with a student is to establish a positive connection. This cultivates trust and helps them to open up and show me what they really need help with. During instruction, I use humor to retain attention and profuse amounts of praise to build self-esteem.

In terms of instruction, my experience allows me to break down difficult concepts and explain them in new and interesting ways. Whenever possible, I use hands-on activities to reinforce learning. I have been working in education for over 6 years in a variety of settings.

In San Francisco, I worked in a small non-profit independent school, an art and theatre-based after school program, and a public alternative school. Over these years, I also tutored at the local Sylvan Learning Center. In each setting, I have always gravitated towar. I worked at LearningRX as a cognitive skills trainer where I worked with students who were having difficulty in school and I was able to find their areas of difficulty and help build those areas up while also helping with their memory, visual acuity, and processing speed.

I like to have a relationship with the students I tutored where they feel comfortable with me; I want them to be able to tell me the problems they're having with the work and what I can do to help. I like to be friendly with them while still being an authority figure where they want to do their best. I think this type of relationship allows me to push the students to their maximum limit without discouraging them when we're having a difficult session.

I have completed a dual major at Ball State University resulting in certification in Elementary and Special Education. While there, I tutored math for fellow undergrads. I have recently returned to Indianapolis, and look to further my career in building the success of children.
